HOLOGRAM 3D CUSTOMIZED FILM

Make your own class hologram movie to see yourself as a hologram! The students’ heads will appear in 3D and give the impression of “floating in the air”! A hologram is an optical device that projects images in 3D. After an introduction to the technique of frame-by-frame animation, this workshop revisits the beginnings of Eadweard Muybridge’s discovery and the evolution of optical illusion.

PINHOLE CAMERA

Change the perspective of reality to your team with building an ancient analog intrument! As the staff at Fuwari Lab , a Japanese creation company based in Tokyo, are well aware, it only takes a few things to alter our vision of the outside world. You can see your surroundings as if you were inside a real camera obscura by looking through a small hole and a cardboard case. So much fun and such a nice (re)discovery!

PRAXINOSCOPE

Invented in 1877 by Emile Renaud, the Praxinoscope. It creates animation through the use of a series of still images. It was an improvement of the zoetrope. Learn how to create your own cartoon to see it come to life on the Praxinoscope! ZOETROPE

Build your own Zoetrope device! The Zoetrope uses a series of still images to produce an animation. The zoetrope works on the same principles as the phenakistoscope, but where the latter can only be used by one person, the zoetrope allows group viewing. After an introduction to the technique of frame-by-frame animation, this workshop revisits the beginnings of Eadweard Muybridge’s discovery and the evolution of optical illusion.

PHONOTROPE

Create & Give Life to your animation draw! Learn how to create an animation with the Phonotrope! Using the live-action camera to ‘parse’ or interpret the animation. It is a contemporary reworking of the Zoetrope, one of several pre-film (19th century) animation devices that produce the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs showing progressive phases of that motion.

MUTOSCOPE

The Mutoscope is a device where photographs are assembled on a wheel and mechanically flipped through with a crank. The images are visualized in rapid succession, giving an impression of movement. STROBOTOP

Strobotop combines tradition and modernity, allowing simple and practical implementations of techniques that predate cinema. An animation becomes visible when an illustrated turntable with pictures on it is lit by a mini strobe light.
